Why You Shouldn’t Share the Dreams You’re Building

If you’ve hung around here for any amount of time, you know I’m very passionate about chasing your dreams. What you might not know is that I also believe in keeping them to yourself. Not forever, but at least in the beginning phases (especially when you first start dream chasing). Sometimes it’ hard enough to convince ourselves to go for it. It’s hard enough to overcome self-doubt and fear not to mention the details and logistics of the dream you’re chasing. Factor into that trying to convince others and it can seem like more trouble than it’s worth.

One thing I’ve learned is to identify who you can share things with. You might have to seek out friendships, mentorships, or even groups where you can surround yourself with like-minded people. As a creative, it’s a lot easier for me to share my ventures with other creatives. They know the work that goes into what we do and they will see the endeavor through a different lens. They’re chasing dreams just as big as mine if not bigger! Instead of feeling like I’m losing before I even start, watching what they do encourages me to take my dream up a couple of notches!

So if you’re yearning to make a dream a reality, I’d encourage you to surround yourself with people who are chasing dreams like you. I’d also suggest you to get some experience and success under your belt. That confidence will give you the courage to continue to move forward. It will also give you an example to lean on once you’re ready to share. Sometimes those closest to us fear failure just as much or more than we do and think they’re protecting us by discouraging us from even trying. So before you prove them right by giving up, give yourself a chance. Come up with a plan, surround yourself with those who will objectively challenge and support you, and execute that plan!

If you’re serious about moving forward and making your dreams reality, I’d love to support you. This month, you’ll be guided to create an Intention Plan. If you get started now, you’ll be done the first week of January, just in time to set yourself up to live 2018 with intention! You can get started by signing up here.

Either way, I just want to encourage you to go for it! We all need someone to remind us to believe in ourselves. If no one has told you recently, you’re resourceful, creative, and capable. I can’t wait to hear what dreams you’re chasing! Feel free to share your thoughts on this post in the comments.

Sending you lots of love and wishing you all that you need to support you in chasing your dreams!

  1. Hi Niki! I so much agree with what you write! If we want to be our future selves we need to surround ourselves with people who can see us as that someone who has already caught his or her dream. It can be very draining to share our dreams with people who don’t resonate with them and it is, I think, really essential to choose wisely who we give insight into our vision. Thanks for that great post!

    1. I’m so glad this post resonated with you. It’s so important to identify who we can share our dream with during its conception, infancy, and growing stages before we yield results. It’s easier for others to get on board when we “succeed” but the road to success isn’t always easy and convincing others to see it’s worth pursuing can be tough! Thanks for stopping by ❤
